Arch Cape is the solo musical project of visual artist and musician Rachel Blumberg. Rachel has been performing solo improvisational and composed music since moving to Rhode Island from Portland, Oregon in 2012. Rachel was deeply involved in the music scene of Portland for many years and was a touring and recording member of bands such as The Decemberists, M.Ward, Laura Veirs, Bright Eyes, Norfolk & Western, Laura Gibson, Michael Hurley, Mirah, Tara Jane O'Neil, and many more. Moving to Rhode Island gave her a blank slate and she began to experiment and improvise with both music and stop motion animation, developing a new musical and visual language revolving around explorations of feeling and human perception, as well as the rhythms of the natural world around her home. Using various forms of the drum set, pitched and non-pitched percussion, found sounds, keyboards, her voice, a loop station and pedals, Arch Cape moves between improvised minimal emotional soundscapes, composed experimental pop songs. She often performs live to her stop motion animated and film collages.
Arch Cape released their first solo record on Jealous Butcher Records in 2017. Another record is in the works.
